Heathrow Security Staff Strikes – May 2023
Airport workers are going on strike at Heathrow airport in May 2023. Here are the details and dates.
Heathrow airport expects disruptions because pay talks broke down on May 4th. More than 1,000 staff are expected to walk out. Customers were warned about potential delays.
About 1,400 Heathrow Airport security staff will walk out between Thursday 4 and Saturday 6 May, Tuesday 9 to Wednesday 10 May and Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 May.
British Airways cancelled flights as a result of staff walkouts at Easter. Will this be necessary in May? Hopefully not, but British Airways issued guidance issued to its customers, saying:
“We are reducing the number of security lanes in operation. This is due to the industrial action being taken by Heathrow Airport staff. We expect that it will take longer than usual to pass through security. But we will have additional BA colleagues available to support customers.”
A Heathrow spokesperson added. “Passengers can be reassured that they can travel as normal. This is an important time for the country, and we will not let these unnecessary strikes disrupt journeys.”
“We have activated our contingency plans. We have deployed 750 additional colleagues. The entire management team will be on hand in the terminals providing assistance to passengers.”
Our advice is to allow extra time if you’re travelling via Heathrow airport.
